How To Make An All-Purpose Cleaner With Lemons?

Cleaning your home with natural ingredients is not only effective but super cheap. I love saving money and over the years I found that spending on fancy cleaners and detergents from the store is unnecessary – especially when ingredients like vinegar exist that are incredible in cleaning and disinfecting.

But, of course, there is one downfall to vinegar – that terrible smell. I absolutely hate the scent of vinegar and the last thing I want is for my home to smell like that after I am done cleaning it. This forced me to find out ways to deal with the smell yet still use vinegar because it’s too powerful of an ingredient to avoid using.

How To Make An All-Purpose Cleaner With Lemons?

Believe it or not, you can still use vinegar to make an all-purpose cleaner and avoid the smell and the secret is lemons. You can infuse vinegar with lemon peels.

I love infusing vinegar with lemon peels and then using it as an all-purpose cleaner. You might be wondering how I do it – and today I will show you!

I take a mason jar and fill it with vinegar. Then I add lemon peels in there as well as the juice of half a lemon. I put on the lid of the jar and forget about it for at least one week. During these seven days, the vinegar will infuse with the lemon peels and the lemon juice and that terrible smell will no longer be detectable.

Once the week is up, I throw the lemon peels away and pour the infused vinegar into a spray bottle. I also add two drops of liquid soap and a few drops of lemon essential oil – and just like that, you now have the perfect all-purpose cleaner that is natural, cheap, and super effective in cleaning.

If you want, you can also infuse the vinegar with grapefruit and orange peels – they work great too. You can also mix the peels and even add herbs.

How to Clean Your Hardwood Floors?

Maintaining hard floors clean is definitely way easier than carpets. This, however, doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t take proper care of them on regular basis. If you don’t clean them properly they will lose the shine and appeal they once had – and I am certain that you want your floors to look brand new for as long as possible.

But how do you properly clean them? Let me tell you a little secret – you don’t need expensive commercial cleaners because they are packed with harsh chemicals. Instead, all you really need is water and dish soap. Let me show you how I clean my hard floors!

How to Clean Your Hardwood Floors?

Prepare a vacuum cleaner, a mop, a spray bottle, water, and organic dish soap. I know that a lot of people use vinegar for cleaning, however, I have found that the acidity can do more harm than good.

Start off with vacuuming the floors so you can remove dust and other impurities. This will prepare the surface for the next step.

Then, grab a bucket, pour warm water into a spray bottle, and add a few drops of the organic dish soap. Shake well and grab your mop. We will not fill a bucket with water because the more moisture you apply to your floors, the higher the risk of damage. After all, wood does not mix well with water.

Spray a small section of the floors with the cleaner and start mopping. Focus on smaller areas at a time then move on to the next. This method may be more time-consuming than the regular bucket with water but it’s safer and will provide excellent results.

If there are any stained areas or dirty patches, focus on them by applying more of the cleaner than wiping. You will see how the stains will loosen up and will be easy to wipe with the mop.

Now that you know how to properly clean your hard floors, let me tell you how I keep them cleaner for longer – I don’t wear shoes inside! As soon as I come home, I take my shoes off and place them in my hallway. Then I either walk with socks or I put on my house slippers.

How To Make Your Own DIY Upholstery Stain Remover That Really Works?

I absolutely hate spilling something on my favourite sofa. I spend a lot of money on it and the last thing I want is to destroy it and cover it with stains. I am certain you feel the same way!

But no matter how hard I try to avoid staining it, I still find little areas that are indeed stained. I have made sure to not eat on my sofa as well as avoid drinking coffee or red wine when around the couch but accidents still happen.

Thankfully, I discovered an incredible DIY recipe for an all-natural stain remover that is not only cheap and easy to make but it works well with all types of stains. Today, I am going to share it with you!

How To Make Your Own DIY Upholstery Stain Remover That Really Works?

You need only a few ingredients for this recipe – distilled water, distilled white vinegar, liquid dish soap, and your favourite essential oil, however, the oil is optional. I like to add it because I hate the smell of vinegar and I always look for ways to cancel it in my DIY cleaners.

You need a cup of the distilled water, half a cup of the white vinegar, 3 drops of the soap, and around 10 drops of the essential oil.

Combine all of these ingredients in a spray bottle then shake so everything can mix well – and that’s it, your DIY stain remover is ready to be used!

I like to spray it over the affected area and let it sit for a few minutes so all of the ingredients have time to work their magic. Then I gently scrub with a cloth. Once I am happy with the result, I grab another cloth and dampen it with water then I wipe the area so I can remove the soap.

How To Remove Rust From A Porcelain Sink?

If you have rust on your porcelain sinks then you are probably desperate for finding a way to get rid of it. But don’t worry too much about it because today I will share some of my favourite methods for removing rust on a porcelain sink!

These removal methods can also be applied to your bathtub so keep that in mind if you are dealing with rust on your porcelain tub!

How To Remove Rust From A Porcelain Sink?

– Use Lemon Juice and Salt

Start off with cutting a lemon in half then squeeze the lemon juice over the rust. Continue with sprinkling salt on top of the juice and let both ingredients sit for a few hours so they have time to work their magic.

Next, grab a scrub brush and gently scrub the areas. Repeat these steps as many times as necessary until the rust is removed. Finish off with rinsing!

– Use Lemon Juice and Baking Soda

An alternative to the first method is to replace the salt with baking soda. Mix lemon juice and baking soda in a bowl then apply the paste over the affected areas.

Let it sit for a few hours then scrub with a scrub brush. Again, you can repeat these steps as many times as you like until the rust is removed – then just rinse!

– Use Borax

Another great method you can use is to mix warm water and borax in a bowl. The paste should be applied to the affected areas.

Let it sit for a few hours then wipe with a microfiber cloth and rinse with water.

How To Deep Clean Your Stovetop With Hydrogen Peroxide?

When was the last time you deep cleaned your stovetop? If you can’t even remember then this means that it’s covered in grease, stains, burnt food, and all sorts of other impurities you want to get rid of, right? There is such an easy way to do it and the best part is that you won’t be scrubbing for hours until your arm gets sore!

All you need are a few household ingredients you already have in your home – baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, a sponge, and a cloth!

Here Is How To Deep Clean Your Stovetop!

Start off with adding half a cup of baking soda in a bowl then adding hydrogen peroxide. You want to make a thick paste out of the two ingredients so carefully add a bit of the liquid then mix.

Then scoop the paste with a sponge and apply a thick layer all over your stove.

I like to leave the solution to work its magic for at least an hour or so. That way, the baking soda and hydrogen peroxide will have time to loosen up all of the impurities, greasy, and stains so you can remove them way easier later!

Then grab the sponge once again and start scrubbing for a few minutes until any stubborn stains get removed. You will notice how easily you clean the stove – by applying very little pressure!

And finally, wipe the stove with a damp cloth so you can remove the paste and impurities – and you are done!

How To Remove Greasy Stains From Upholstery?

If you love eating pizza or other greasy foods while you are sitting on your sofa watching TV then you are most likely dealing with greasy stains on a regular basis. I know that you are as careful as possible yet you still manage to drop food on the upholstery – but don’t worry because I am going to teach you how to remove these annoying stubborn greasy stains with just a few natural ingredients!

How To Remove Greasy Stains From Upholstery?

I have a few stain removal methods that you can use – all of them are effective, easy, and super cheap because you don’t need any fancy commercial cleaners to perform them.

– The First Method

The first way to remove greasy stains is to use baking soda. But before you sprinkle the powder on top of the stained area make sure you remove all crumbles and food that you dropped. Also, blot the stain with a damp paper towel.

Then sprinkle the baking soda and let it sit for 30 minutes. It will absorb the grease. Continue with vacuuming the powder.

If the stain is not completely removed, repeat the steps as much as necessary!

– The Second Method

The second method I have for you is similar to the first but instead of baking soda use baby powder. This will work only if the stain is fresh.

Repeat the same steps as the first method but this time you want to mix liquid dish soap and water in a bowl, dip a cloth in the mixture, and blot the greasy stains after you vacuum the baby powder. Once you are happy with the result grab another cloth, dampen it with water, and blot the area.

– The Third Method

And the last stain removal method I have for you requires you to apply a bit of liquid dish soap on top of the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. Then dampen a cloth and remove the soap.

Next, you need to mix ammonia and water in a bowl (equal parts), dampen a sponge in the mixture and treat the stain with it. Once you are ready and happy with the result I would recommend using a baby wipe to remove the ammonia mixture – plus, the alcohol in the baby wipe will further help with the stain removal!

How To Clean A Copper Sink?

Copper sinks are pretty rare these days, however, they are stunning. Many people tend to avoid placing a copper sink in their kitchen or bathroom because they think it’s hard to clean and maintain but it’s actually super easy – you just need to know exactly how to do it and you need to understand how copper actually works.

Let’s talk more about copper

If you are considering placing a copper sink in your kitchen then you need to understand that the colour will change over time – it’s normal and it’s the reason why copper is so beautiful. It will slightly change from a lighter tone to a darker one but this shouldn’t alarm you! There is actually a term for these changes in the colour – it’s called patina.

This patina process is basically the copper protecting itself from harsh elements. For example, you will notice a change in the tone in your sink when you expose it to acidic foods like tomatoes, ketchup, lemons, etc. as well as cosmetics – toothpaste, shaving cream, and make-up. Just a quick disclaimer – avoid using bleach or any drain unclogging products because they will seriously damage the copper!

But even if your sink does come in contact with those acidic foods, it will take only a few days for the colour to “restore”.

How To Clean A Copper Sink?

As I said, it’s super easy. Do not use any DIY cleaners or commercial products. The only thing you need is hot water, liquid dish soap, and a sponge. After you are done washing the dishes, add liquid dish soap to your sponge and wipe the entire sink. Then rinse with hot water – and this is enough to maintain your sink clean and free of damage!

– How To Deal With A Smelly Dishwasher?

– How To Freshen Up Your Carpet?

Cleaning your carpet every few months is crucial for maintaining it clean and disinfected. It’s recommended that you either leave the professionals to do this or buy a steam cleaner machine. Steam is the only thing that is powerful enough to really get rid of all impurities as well as the bacteria in your carpet.

However, if you don’t have a steam cleaner and you rely on experts to do the cleaning for you, you still need to know how to freshen up the carpet in between your appointments.

To do that simply mix baking soda with a few drops of lavender or tea tree essential oil then sprinkle the mixture all over your carpet. Leave it overnight then vacuum the baking powder. The baking powder is amazing at absorbing any bad odours and freshening up the fibers while the essential oils have antibacterial properties and they will remove any germs!

– How To Freshen Up Your Mattress?

Just like your carpet, your mattress also requires to be cleaned every few months (every six months is ideal). But in between cleaning it, you can use the same method used on a carpet to freshen it up.

Again, mix baking soda and lavender/ tea tree essential oil and sprinkle the powder all over your mattress. Let it sit for a few hours then vacuum it up!

A Guide For Cleaning With Lemons: How To Do It?

I love using natural ingredients to clean my home – and lemon is my favourite to use. I prefer it over vinegar (which might shock you). If you are into cleaning with natural ingredients then you know that vinegar is the number one ingredient people use, however, I really hate the smell which is why I avoid using it.

How To Use Lemon When Cleaning?

– Remove Soap Scum

Start off with cutting a lemon in half then rub it over the soap scum. Rinse and repeat a few times until you are happy with the results.

– Clean Cutting Boards

Not a lot of people know this but you shouldn’t clean your cutting boards with only soapy water. You need to use something stronger so that you can get into the little cuts and really clean and disinfect the surface.

I use lemon to do this. I sprinkle a bit of salt all over the cutting board then I cut a lemon in half and rub the surface for a few minutes. Then, I rinse. I highly recommend using this method whenever you were cutting raw meat!

– Make An All-Purpose Cleaner

One of my favourite all-purpose cleaners contains lemon juice. Of course, I still add a bit of vinegar but the smell is concealed due to the lemon.

Mix half a cup of white vinegar with two cups of water and the juice of a lemon. Pour the mixture into a spray bottle.

– Clean Your Sink

I clean my sink similar to how I clean my cutting boards – with salt and lemon. I sprinkle salt all over my sink then I rub with half a lemon. Once I am done, I rinse and dry with paper towels.

– Make A Window Cleaner

As you can see, I use lemon to clean just about everything in my home – and my windows aren’t an exception.

I mix 4 cups of water with half a cup of white vinegar and 1/4 cup of lemon juice. Pour the liquid into a spray bottle and use it with a microfiber cloth for spotless windows!

How Often Do You Need To Vacuum The Floors In Your Home?

A lot of people are wondering exactly how often should they vacuum clean the floors and carpets in their home – is once a week enough or should you vacuum more than that? Is two times a week enough or should you do it every single day?

This is an important thing to know since vacuuming is a huge part of your cleaning chores and we all want to achieve spotless living space at all times.

If Your Have Carpets

Carpeted floors are harder to clean because they trap a lot of dirt, dust, impurities as well as spills. But today we won’t talk about getting rid of stains and cleaning up spills – we will only talk about vacuuming.

Experts say that high-traffic areas of carpets should be vacuumed once a day and the rest twice a week. I know that this probably sounds like too much work, however, it’s for the best – for your health and for the long lifespan of your carpets.

If You Have Hard Floors

Most of us have hard floors – and they are much easier to maintain clean. Experts say that it’s enough to vacuum hard floors once a week. I myself have hard floors in almost every room in my home and learning that vacuuming them once a week is enough makes me feel like a huge weight has been lifted off of my chest!

But What If You Have Pets?

Now, if you have pets things are different. Regardless of what your floors and whether they are carpeted or wooden – you need to vacuum at least once every two days. It’s recommended every day, however, we need to be realistic and since we all have such busy lives filled with responsibilities, work, etc. no one would really have the time to vacuum their entire home every single day.

Of course, if you can invest in a robotic vacuum cleaner then do that because it will make a huge difference! You would no longer need to vacuum because the appliance will do all the work.
